Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Lake James State Park @ Lake James State Park MTB Trails
Oct 7 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Lake James State Park @ Lake James State Park MTB Trails | Nebo | North Carolina | United States

IMBA Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day will be celebrated at Lake James State Park on October 7th at 1 pm. Join the Alliance and event sponsor Overmountain Cycles for a fun morning of riding dedicated to the kids!

TKMBD is an annual celebration held officially on the first Saturday of October. The event, developed and coordinated by IMBA, strives to encourage communities around the world to join together and ride mountain bikes with youth. Over the years we’ve had tens of thousands of kids participate from across the globe, including: Italy, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Malaysia, and Mexico. Informal or formal, one child or 100 children, TKMBD celebrates the joy of riding in the dirt.

Besides being good, healthy fun, the goal is to develop a connection between kids and the natural world around them. Today’s children are tomorrow’s land managers and politicians — future decision-makers for important matters like recreation and access to public lands. How different might our current access landscape look today if previous generations of policy makers had grown up riding bikes on natural-surface trails?
An adult group ride when the kids’ ride commences (around 3 pm).

To register a kid, or if you are interested in helping with the event (or need more information at all), email the Alliance at info@ridenwnctrails.com.

Fonta Flora Barnburner 50k MTB Race @ Fonta Flora Brewery Whippoorwill Farm | Nebo | North Carolina | United States

Overmountain Cycles and Pisgah Productions are excited to be partnering to bring you the 2019 Fonta Flora BARNBURNER!

The Fonta Flora Barnburner is a 50k mountain bike race that will test your endurance, skill and fortitude to press on as you ride through the heart-pounding trails of Lake James State Park and the Fonta Flora Trail. Each trail system has unique features to enjoy, but here’s a little taste. LJSP is tight, fast and flowy, with ripping berm sections and did we mention feel the flow? Next the Fonta Flora trail opens up, but stay on your game. It’s fast, fast, fast with tight corners, wide open sprints and enough flow to get the wheels well off the ground. Gorgeous lake views abound on this race along with mountain views that will inspire you to ride harder.

The Barnburner will start and finish at Fonta Flora Brewery’s Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, NC. After finishing this beautiful race, plan to enjoy a hand-crafted pint at the brewery with your fellow racers. Proceeds from the event will benefit further maintenance & development of the trails around Lake James!

The Alliance is partnering with Overmountain Cycles for some work on Holly Springs (aka Sinkhole), February 6, 2022 at 9am. Join us for some maintenance work on this classic Pisgah trail. Meeting location will be near the lower trailhead at the intersection of FSR 982 Mortimer Piedmont Rd. and the gated FSR 986 Piedmont Springs Rd. (Coordinates: 35.920583, -81.792417). If you are unfamiliar with this part of the forest, it is a remote area so plan accordingly to be on time or early. There is no reliable cell service. Parking is VERY limited, so carpool with others that you know are coming.

At 9am, we will divide into groups and then hiking in a good ways before beginning work back down the trail. If this gets postponed due to weather, the call will be made by 7am the day of on the Alliance Facebook site. Bring sturdy footwear, work gloves, and water. Tools will be provided. Also, please fill out the Trail Volunteer RSVP form so we can plan ahead.
