The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding a NC Forest Service Wildland Fire Chainsaw Safety course at W. Kerr Scott on Saturday, April 13. This safety course will be a full-day commitment from 8am-5pm, with classroom session inside followed by and practical session outside. Pre-registration is required: registration link. Space is limited for this event, and priority will be given to those who work on the trails at Kerr Scott. Participants need to have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): chaps, hearing and eye protection, and helmet. If any of these items are needed, please indicate on registration form.
Race the Dark Side on May 5th
The Southern Classic Mountain Bike Series is returning to Kerr Scott on May 4 for the Dark Grind. In cooperation with the USACE, the Brushy Mountain Cyclists Club (BMCC), and the North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League (NCICL), the Alliance is excited to promote this long-standing race. It is going to be a great day of racing at Dark Mountain. Proceeds from this event benefit the chapter trail fund. Race sponsor, Bald Guy Brew, will be providing a special Dark Grind coffee blend to all podium finishers.

Seven-mile loop that uses upper Fish Dam Creek and a combination of all the smaller trails at Dark Mountain, aka the “Burn” lap. There are some great changes to Dark Mountain that will be featured in the 2018 edition, including new trail and excellently reworked downhill sections. Come on out and race the Dark Side and be the first to race the new changes to the course!

Local Directions to Dark Mountain: Take N.C. 268 west from Wilkesboro. Three miles past U.S. 421, turn right at the large W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir sign onto Reservoir Road.
