January 18 Trail Workday at Zacks Fork

Jan 4, 2014 | Uncategorized

Join us for some trail work! The first community workday on the Zacks Fork mountain bike trail is scheduled to take place on January 18th at 10:00 a.m in Lenoir.

The 3.5 mile singletrack trail that will span between the Lenoir Aquatic Center and the Lenoir Rotary Soccer Complex is about to become a reality. This will be Caldwell County’s first purpose-built natural surface trail for mountain bikes.

The contractor-built portion of the project will begin soon. The newly formed Northwest NC MTB Alliance, a chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), aims to help with the volunteer effort required to finish out the trail. Fundraising for the project has been spearheaded over the last several years by Shawn Moore and Jeff Welch of Luna Cycles and Bob Giduz of Caldwell County Pathways.

Directions: Traveling north from Hickory on Highway 321, turn right on Nuway Circle. After a half mile turn right on Zacks Fork Rd. where we will be meeting at the third parking lot on the right near the greenway access.

No experience necessary to help work on the trail; there are tasks for everyone. Tools will be provided. Bring sturdy shoes and work gloves. Any amount of time will be helpful. If you plan on staying for the duration, bring a snack or lunch. The plan is to break around noon and then resume until 2pm.

Hope to see you all there!
