Fall riding is the best!
Chilly mornings and evenings with Fall colors in the woods make for some of the best riding in northwest NC! Unfortunately, we have also had some volatile weather. This has resulted in trail closures at many of our trails – most notably in Hickory and Wilkesboro – which were hit by tornadoes on October 23. Lake James Work & Ride Nov. 4
Join us at Lake James State Park on November 4 at 9:00 am for a maintenance day on Tindo and Wimba loops. Volunteers will be doing light work on the tread and corridor to keep it in fine shape. We’ll stop for lunch around noon and have a group ride afterward. Any day-of cancellation will be posted on Facebook site so check there if weather looks questionable.
SORBA Board Meeting in Wilkesboro Nov. 10-12
The 2017 SORBA Fall Board of Directors Meeting will be held November 10-12 at the Wilkes County Agricultural Center. The Alliance is the host chapter and will be welcoming leaders from 42 other SORBA chapters located all over the Southeast. We will have guided rides and socials scheduled through out the weekend. Old Fort Trail Weekend Nov. 17-19 at Camp Grier
The trails surrounding Old Fort are some of the best in WNC, and the weekend of November 17th-19th they are going to get some love. Along with two of our neighboring chapters, we will be helping promote and organize this exciting weekend of work, riding, and camaraderie. Base camp for the event will be on the doorstep of Pisgah at Camp Grier, and the hosts are offering dinner, lodging, and more (like free shuttles to the top of the trails).This will be a great time! Alliance Chapter Meeting in Morganton on Dec. 15
The Alliance will host our Annual meeting on Friday evening December 15 at Overmountain Cycles in Morganton. Doors will open at 6:00 and the meeting will commence at 6:30. We will take care of some quick annual business, provide some updates, and have plenty of time to talk trails and bikes over beer. Meeting is open to everyone! MORE INFO
Hickory City Park Wins “Dig In” Recognition
The Lake Hickory Trail System has been chosen for the 2017 IMBA Dig In Campaign, which is putting dollars directly toward 68 active, approved mountain bike projects in 31 states. This is great recognition for the project and exemplifies the hard work of our local Hickory-area members. Sustainable Trail Workshop at Riverbend Park a Success
The Alliance sponsored a Sustainable Trails Workshop at Riverbend Park on Oct. 14. Led by Tim Johnson, Director of the Rockingham Community College TRAILS Program, the workshop was well attended with over 15 participants.
