Upcoming Work Party Dates

The Alliance announces the following dates for some trail work:

July 16 – Upper Wilson Ridge. Great work is being done in the Grandfather District. Volunteers as well as professionals have made some nice improvements over the past several months. On the 16th we are hoping to tidy up the section just above the Schoolhouse Connector. Directions: Meet at the west end of Schoolhouse Rd. (FSR 4068) at Edgemont Rd. Map and GPS Coordinates: 36.024699, -81.754728.

Recent Trail Planning at Riverbend Park

July 30 – Rocky Knob Park, Boone. We’ll be fine-tuning one of the new trails and doing maintenance on some others. Meet at the RKP parking lot.

August 14 – OVT. We’ll be fixing a section of trail along the lake with some out-sloping and armoring. Also on the punch list is finish-work to a short “exit ramp” at the new flyover bridge. Meet at the Horton’s Hollar Trailhead on Hwy 268 ->MAP<-.

August 27 – Trail Prom, Lenoir. We won’t be swinging trail tools this day, but we’ll still be rallying for trails!

September 11 – Riverbend Park, Conover. We are excited to begin working with Catawba County Parks on improving the riding experience at Riverbend. On this workday we will be working on a section of the current “Blue” trail. Come lend a hand and also find out about the long-term vision for mountain biking at the park, including new trails. We’ll meet a the main parking lot (directions).

September 24 – National Public Lands Day at Kerr Scott. We will be working at Warrior Creek, and meeting at Keowee Park near the main entrance to the Warrior Creek Campground at 9am. MAP.  The area near Keowee is typically a fee area but “fee FREE” on National Public Lands Day.  The USACE is also offering Free CAMPING on Saturday night to volunteers. Email info@ridenwnctrails.com.com for more info on camping. Lunch will be provided by Friends of the Lake.

October 30 – Riverbend Park, Conover. This will be our second work party at Riverbend. We’ll work on the current “Blue” trail and making it BETTER. We’ll meet a the main parking lot at 9 and ride after lunch (directions).

November 5 – Lake James State Park. Maintenance work is on the agenda for this date to tidy up the corridor and tread. Meet at the MTB trailhead (directions). Please find more information for this work at LJSP on the Facebook Event Page.

All Work Parties will begin at 9am. Pack water and snacks to take with you on the trail. Sturdy footwear and work gloves recommended. Tools will be provided, and work will end around noon. Group ride will follow at 1pm, so don’t forget your bike!

Dates and work detail subject to change; this post may be revised. Any day-of cancellations will be posted on Facebook and Twitter sites, so check there if weather looks questionable.
