Update on Trail Closures and Alliance Activities

Apr 14, 2020 | News

Friends, on March 28 we notified our community about closures to trails in our area and how we were responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sadly, we are posting some updated news that includes more trail closures, this time in Pisgah. Yesterday the USFS issued a Forest order which closes several roads and trails in Pisgah National Forest. This includes some trails and roads in the Grandfather District that are in our region. Please look closely at the list of roads and trails before you ride. The order “prohibits being on certain roads and trails, entering or using a developed recreation site, or camping.” The closure is dated to end though August 13, 2020, but may be rescinded sooner.

There are trails and parks open to ride, but we recommend that if you ride, you do so with immediate family members or people you live with and practice social distancing. Please take a look at the guidance offered by our recreation partners through the Outdoor Alliance: How to Get Outside (During a Pandemic). We realize that this inconvenience is counter to our organization’s culture but we urge you to please respect all closures.

We will not sponsor any group rides or trail work until the CDC gives the notice that we are safe to meet in groups again. Additionally, we will be communicating with our land managers and relaying information back to the riding community on when restrictions at various trail systems are lifted.

Below is a list of trail systems that are now closed until further notice. Included in the list is a link to the press release or web page where this is updated. If you have any questions about trail systems in our region, please feel free to reach out to us as needed.

Thank you all for your continued support in our trail efforts in Northwest NC.
